The Cuban community in Miami has started a campaign to collect food, medicine, and essential items to help families in eastern Cuba devastated by Hurricane Melissa.

From artists and public figures to activists and anonymous emigrants, everyone has come together to provide relief to those who have lost everything.

The initiative, titled “Help for Eastern Cuba”, seeks to collect toys, medicines, food, clothing, and hygiene items for those affected on the island by Hurricane Melissa.

The artists will be collecting donations this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at the headquarters of @va_cuba, located at 2994 NW 7 ST, Miami, FL 33125.

The effort is coordinated by well-known figures from the Cuban exile community, including @zurdo_mc and @awo_orumila_omo_o, alongside a team of volunteers aiming to channel assistance quickly and effectively to the hardest-hit provinces: Santiago de Cuba, Holguín, Granma, and Guantánamo.

Among the first to offer their support are actor Lieter Ledesma, influencer Briancito, former manager of reggaeton artist El Taiger, Teresa Padrón, and activist Samantha.

According to the organizers, the artist Raymon was the first artist to say yes to the initiative. Dozens of singers, actors, and influencers joined in a matter of hours.

Many woke up at Costco buying products to send to the victims, confirmed the coordinators on social media.

The organizers explained that they are receiving non-perishable goods, basic medications, hygiene products, diapers, bottled water, and light clothing.

All contributions will be sorted and packaged by volunteers before being shipped by sea to the affected areas of eastern Cuba.

The collection centers will remain open from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. during the three days of the campaign. Additionally, contact numbers and digital platforms will be made available for those who wish to donate from other cities in the United States.

“This is not a political gesture, it is an act of love and humanity. In eastern Cuba, there are children without homes, families without food, and elderly people who have lost everything. From Miami, we want to show that the Cuban heart continues to beat strong,” stated Zurdo MC, one of the promoters of the event.

The hurricane Melissa, which struck Cuba as a category 3 storm, left a scene of destruction in the eastern provinces, with thousands displaced, flooded communities, and destroyed homes. The images from Santiago de Cuba, Baire, Palma Soriano, and Guantánamo have moved the Cuban exile community, which is once again responding with solidarity.
