The Cuban singer Eduardo Antonio, known as El Divo de Placetas, made an emotional appeal for solidarity with the families affected by Hurricane Melissa in the east of the island.

“Today I woke up with all this enthusiasm to gather supplies to send to Cuba, to those in need, especially now with everything that's happening in Cuba,” the artist expressed in a video posted on his social media, where he announced a humanitarian aid campaign.

Eduardo Antonio clarified that he will not send his assistance through any agency linked to the Cuban government, but rather through a church that will ensure that the donations reach the victims directly.

“What I do know is that I am not going to send anything through any agency related to the Cuban government. This I will send through the church, a collection that will take place on November 9 at Super Machi, through a pastor,” he noted.

Moved by the situation on the island, the artist criticized those who judge the initiative and defended his decision: “I am fully aware that there is a dictatorship in Cuba, but what is happening now is a different situation. I will not abandon those in need who have nothing to eat or wear, who have lost everything. And if the government does not help them, who will help them?”.

Finally, he invited all his followers in exile to join this solidarity cause: “November 9 at Super Machi. I will be waiting for all who want to join me in this action. God bless you. And to you, Cubans, may God be with you and may you be able to get through this as soon as possible.”
