A Cuban woman granted I-220A immigration status shared an emotional video on TikTok where she celebrates a new professional achievement in the United States and conveys a message of hope to those, like her, facing the challenges of living under immigration bond.
In the clip, posted by the user @geinyvilla, she is seen smiling while holding two certificates, expressing her pride and gratitude.
"For those who say that an I-220A... a bond cannot... A status does not define you. Thank you so much, Lord," she wrote about the video.
In the description, the young woman added an even more moving message:
"For me, because only I have to be deeply proud of myself. And I say 'myself' because my parents have always been proud, and God knows everything; we don’t have to prove anything to Him. A status does not define you as a human being or as a professional. Immensely grateful to God and to this beautiful country that has allowed me to fulfill my dreams. Here we go for more!"
The I-220A status, also known as "parole in supervision," is a document granted to thousands of Cuban migrants who arrive in the United States and await the resolution of their asylum cases.
Although this status imposes limitations on obtaining federal benefits or certain permits, stories like Geiny's demonstrate that many Cubans manage to get ahead, study, work, and build a new life on American soil.
Her post has been filled with supportive comments from other migrants, who celebrated her effort and resonated with her message of overcoming challenges.
"You are an example for all of us who continue to fight," wrote a user. Another comment added, "God opens doors where many say it is not possible."
Geiny's testimony joins that of dozens of Cubans with I-220A who have shared their success stories on social media, demonstrating that faith, perseverance, and gratitude can surpass any immigration document.
