A large fire that took place this Monday in the work area of the festive neighborhood of Santa Teresa, in Los Chivos, municipality of Camajuaní (Villa Clara), affected seven homes, two of which suffered total loss of belongings, according to local authorities and citizen reports.
The incident began around 6:25 a.m., waking the neighbors with a loud explosion and a dense column of smoke visible from various points in the town.
The affected structure belongs to a pyrotechnics facility, traditionally associated with the production of fireworks for the Parrandas de Camajuaní, one of the most emblematic celebrations in the province.
According to posts by communicator Henry Omar Pérez and user Oscar Salabarría, the fire was classified as “large-scale,” but it was brought under control shortly after dawn thanks to the quick response of firefighters, Ministry of the Interior forces, the Red Cross, and the Integrated Medical Emergency System.
Provincial authorities, led by Susely Morfa González, president of the Provincial Defense Council of Villa Clara, and Milaxy Yanet Sánchez Armas, vice president of the same body, arrived at the site to coordinate assistance for the affected families.
“There are no reports of loss of human life or injuries”, both officials confirmed in statements reported by official media, while the causes of the incident remain under investigation.
Neighbors in the area have shared images and messages of solidarity with the affected families on social media. Internet user Lianny Morera, from the group 'Parranderos de Camajuaní', expressed: “I am a Sapo at heart, but seeing the tragedy that has happened to our rival neighborhood, the Chivos, breaks my heart. Poor neighborhood on the hill that has lost everything.”
The fire caused significant material damage, including collapsed roofs, loss of appliances, furniture, and personal belongings, as confirmed by residents of the neighborhood. Local crews are working on assessing the damage and restoring the electrical service, which was temporarily affected by the flames.
The Parrandas of Camajuaní, declared Cultural Heritage of the Nation, are known for the rivalry between the neighborhoods of Santa Teresa (Los Chivos) and La Loma (Los Sapos), whose pyrotechnic tradition is an integral part of the festive spirit of the municipality.
The event has caused dismay in a community that prepares each December for the most anticipated festivities of Villa Clara.
At the time of this report, the exact causes of the fire have not been disclosed, although everything points to an internal detonation during the storage of explosive materials.
CiberCuba will continue to update this information as official reports on the ongoing investigations are released.
