The Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), Roberto Morales Ojeda, quoted a passage from a speech by the late dictator Fidel Castro, asserting that the “Revolution” is the only solution to the problems faced by the island.
“The only one that can solve the problems of this country, in the medium or long term, is the Revolution (...), with our work, with our struggle, with our effort, fighting against everything that needs to be fought,” the official stated.
Her statement contrasts sharply with the reality of a country experiencing the most stifling crisis, which has intensified in recent days due to Hurricane Melissa passing through the eastern part of the island. This was the perspective of many who commented on the tweet.
"No thank you, you had 66 years to resolve the problems and you've made them worse; you only solved the problems for yourselves and your families. We don't believe you anymore, you lie, you make promises and don't keep them," said an internet user.
"And how long is the term? Because soon, if God doesn’t intervene, you will have been in power for 70 years; with the same ration book, facing an increasingly pronounced misery that forces Cubans to rely on food and medicine packages sent by relatives," another stated.
What Morales Ojeda is consistent with is his divorce from reality. Last Thursday, he stated that after the passage of Hurricane Melissa, “the people of Cuba, the provinces that have been affected recognize the work that has been done in general.
In his speech, the head of the Ideological Political Work Organ stated that “we have been monitoring all networks and the public opinion system” and considered that “this also speaks to the effectiveness with which we have been fulfilling what is in our plans.” He added that “the public's opinion and the interpretation of what can be seen on social networks also reflect the trust in the Party, in the Government, and in each of its institutions.”
The statements by Morales Ojeda came after the leader Miguel Díaz-Canel asserted on his X account that “the measures have been effective” and that the country is “ready for recovery,” following the “extensive damages” caused by Hurricane Melissa in the eastern region. In his message, the president maintained that “control over the situation is being upheld” and that “we have prepared for the worst-case scenario.”
However, those statements generated a wave of criticism on social media, where numerous users reported unaddressed emergencies, makeshift evacuations, and shortages in assistance.
The activist Amelia Calzadilla accused him of "celebrating victory" without verifying the real situation in the eastern part of the country and urged him to ask the population if they truly feel that the measures have been effective.
The reports of abandonment and state indifference that have emerged in recent days from communities in the East have further exposed the falsehood of the claims made by this member of the regime's nomenclature.
