He dreams of collaborating with Luis Fonsi and performing regularly on a stage in Miami, but while that moment arrives, the Cuban Dany Baxter walks the streets of the city bringing joy to strangers.
From his car, equipped with a microphone and a smile, he turns traffic into a stage and his talent into a surprise for those crossing his path.
In an interview with journalist Javier Díaz, Baxter revealed that he has been dedicated to lyrical singing since the age of 16 and that, after emigrating from Cuba, he is working to revive his music career in the United States.
"I spent four years singing opera; that was my main area of study. I decided to look for something more organic, where people could see me perform live," she explained.
Each journey is an adventure on wheels. Baxter admits that not everyone reacts the same way when he honks the horn to get their attention.
"You have to have tact, because not everyone rolls down the window. Sometimes they are surprised, sometimes they react well, and other times not so much. It’s unpredictable," he comments with a laugh.
Their goal, they say, is simple: to brighten the day of those who may be going through a difficult time.
"What I am doing is trying to brighten the day for people who might be having a difficult day. Many people are surprised; they don't see it coming," he assures.
While he continues to dream of stepping onto a stage or singing in a restaurant or nightclub in Miami, Dany Baxter keeps rolling through the streets with his voice and his hope.
"I am a living example that I have not yet reached where I want to be, but I know I will. My advice is to not give up," he states confidently.
And while many wonder how he manages to project his voice from the car, the young man prefers to keep the mystery.
"That's a trick I still don't want to reveal," he says with a smile.
