The Cuban content creator Víctor González, known on social media as @victoriny_, shared a video showcasing an impressive abandoned house perched on a mountain in Cuba.
The video leaves many mysteries unanswered, as the young man did not reveal the exact location of the property, could not say to whom the house belonged, nor explained how to get there.
González walked around the exterior of the house, which remained completely closed, and was only able to film the interior through the windows.
The abandoned house probably belongs to the Ministry of Tourism or another state agency. It features modern architecture and has its own pool, which is completely neglected. The water is putrid, the garden is overgrown with weeds, and the electrical system has been ripped out.
These types of videos reflect the frustration of many Cubans regarding the waste of abandoned properties by the regime while thousands of families live in overcrowded conditions, in houses on the verge of collapsing, or even without a roof over their heads.
One of the most striking comments on the post highlighted that "the windows and doors are worth it, that's an easy 400 dollars," referring to the informal market for construction materials that thrives in Cuba amid widespread shortages.
There are many instances where people discover uninhabited government houses and take everything they can sell, from tiles to electrical switches, as a means of survival.
Unlike other ruins that show years of neglect, this house appears to have been abandoned relatively recently, as it still has all its doors and windows, although they are not the original ones from the property.
The video by Víctor González brings to light once again the contradiction of Cuban reality, where the luxuries of the past coexist with current poverty, and where many properties of the regime end up in ruins while the people face one of the worst housing crises in their history.
