Cuban actress Darlyn Morales shared on her social media the experience of starting anew in Madrid, where she asserts that renting a home has become an increasingly difficult challenge.

In a video posted on Instagram, Darlyn appears with her sister showcasing the small studio they managed to find after an intensive search.

"We got it through word of mouth, because real estate agencies and on Idealista they're asking for a lot," Morales explained.

The artist shared that, in her case, the rental was made possible thanks to personal contacts, as agencies typically require several months' rent as a deposit, management fees, and proof of income.

Morales commented that he saw a room for more than 600 euros for a single person and another for two people, where they were asking for up to 2,500 euros to move in, a figure that is impossible for those just starting out.

"There are many people who dream of moving to Madrid and have been unable to find anything," he lamented.

Tips for finding rental properties in Madrid and other cities in Spain

  • Seek personal recommendations: word of mouth remains one of the most effective avenues.
  • Check local groups on social media for Cubans and Latin Americans in Spain.
  • Avoid online intermediaries with excessive requirements, especially if you don't have a permanent contract.
  • Go directly to real estate agencies; many have options that haven't been published online yet.
  • Have all the documents ready (payroll, guarantee, references) to avoid missing out on opportunities.
