A mother from Baracoa expressed her outrage on social media after her three-year-old daughter's rechargeable fan was stolen, a vital item amid the prolonged blackouts affecting the province of Guantánamo, making it nearly impossible to sleep in many Cuban homes.

The user Day Ng posted the message this Monday in the Facebook group Revolico Baracoa Plus, where she recounted that an unknown person entered her home on 13th Street and took the equipment from the girl's room while she was not at home.

The woman asked her acquaintances for help in identifying the person responsible and offered a reward to anyone who could recover the fan.

"My three-year-old daughter's fan was stolen. Please, to my friends or acquaintances, if you have a fan of this type that you no longer use, you can call 58548867. I would appreciate it and will offer a reward," wrote the mother, who also lamented the lack of values and the social decline affecting the country.

In his post, Day Ng denounced the thief's insensitivity in stealing an item that a minor was using during the daily blackouts experienced in Baracoa.

"She doesn't think that's something a three-year-old girl needs in the midst of a blackout. She doesn't consider the sacrifices one makes to ensure their baby sleeps peacefully," she pointed out.

The woman assured that if the responsible party turns out to be someone she knows, she will find out, and she has placed her complaint in the hands of justice and her faith.

"I only ask God to punish you greatly, because only a mother and a father feel the pain of the sacrifice made to get one of these fans, so that someone who doesn't work and only thinks about stealing can come along," he wrote.

The author of the post emphasized in the comments section that the little girl's father was furious because "they touched something of his daughter that is sacred to him."

The incident occurs amidst a deep economic and social crisis that has spurred theft and insecurity in various regions of the country, while the regime continues to offer no solutions for the shortages of electricity, food, and basic services.

In that context, reports of the theft of essential goods are multiplying on social media due to the lack of response from the authorities.

During the crisis caused by Hurricane Melissa passing through eastern Cuba, several provinces faced a troubling increase in insecurity.

In Santiago de Cuba, the Electric Company warned of a wave of thefts involving cables and transformers in areas affected by the cyclone, leaving entire communities without electricity at a critical time.

These events, recorded just a few days after the hurricane passed, further exacerbated the existing social tension.

In the province of Granma, at least five burglaries with force were reported, committed by individuals who took advantage of the emergency situation to commit crimes.

Local authorities, led by the president of the Defense Council, deemed these acts as intolerable and pledged to impose severe penalties on those responsible.

These crimes occurred amid widespread devastation and resource scarcity, according to official reports released after the hurricane.

On that same day, in Santiago de Cuba, two men were arrested for trying to take advantage of the chaos to steal in a community that was seriously affected.

The authorities' intervention prevented the looting, but the incident highlighted the growing social desperation.

As documented in local testimonies, the combination of natural disasters and institutional neglect has created a fertile ground for crime.
