In the community of El Mango, one of the most affected by the floods in the Río Cauto municipality, Granma province, eleven displaced families received tents, mosquito nets, blankets, and a cooking kit this Thursday, as part of a donation from India and the regime's response to the crisis in the region.
According to , the official media of the Cuban regime, local authorities took part in the delivery event and assured that in the coming days, other resources will be distributed "with priority given to the most vulnerable groups."
However, the provision of tents as temporary housing highlights the severity of the situation faced by hundreds of families in the east of the country, following the heavy rains and the passage of Hurricane Melissa, which left entire communities underwater and many homes destroyed.
The regime has responded to the crisis in Granma mainly by resorting to foreign donations and improvised measures, such as the installation of a field hospital in Río Cauto, while entire communities continue to be affected and lacking basic services.
This strategy has not included a direct investment in sustainable solutions by the State; rather, it has focused on distributing supplies from international aid.
Far from implementing reconstruction policies or allocating effective state resources, the authorities have chosen to receive donations from countries like India, which have sent both medicines and tents.
This dependence on external aid has been the only visible way to support those affected, highlighting the government's inability to respond autonomously to disasters of this magnitude.
