The Cuban content creator from the profile @pedacitos.d.papel, known for her posts full of rural charm and sustainability, recently shared a video on Instagram that has evoked nostalgia in many Cubans.
In the reel, it showcases a very popular plant in the fields of Cuba, whose fruit is traditionally used as a natural sponge in kitchens.
"From my travels to my hometown, Consolación del Sur, I rediscovered this plant that I hadn't seen in many years. I'm sharing it and telling you what I know about it," said the author in her post, which has garnered thousands of views.
The plant in question is the luffa, a plant fiber that, when dried, transforms into a hard and rough sponge, perfect for cleaning household items without producing plastic waste. When it gets wet, "it becomes soft," and its use has spread in many countries as an eco-friendly and sustainable alternative to synthetic sponges.
In her message, the author also noted that luffa seeds are difficult to get rid of and that she is willing to share the ones she has collected with her followers. "If you plant one of these in your yard, you'll always have natural sponges," she remarked.
