The community of La Güinera, in the Arroyo Naranjo municipality, is in shock following the death of Diosdeisis Sandoval Dama, a 28-year-old young woman and mother of a small girl, who was well-known and beloved in her neighborhood.

The information was confirmed by Niover Licea through their channel "Nio Reporting a Crime" and by multiple testimonies on social media.

According to neighbors and witnesses, the attacker, identified as Antonio Ferrer "Tony" and known in the neighborhood as the son of a woman nicknamed "La Muda," stabbed Diosdeisis in the groin, resulting in a fatal wound.

An elderly man who attempted to intervene was struck with stones, rendering him unable to continue assisting the victim.

Despite the efforts, Diosdeisis passed away on site.

The case adds to the alarming list of femicides in Cuba

Diosdeisis becomes yet another victim of what independent reports indicate as a concerning rise in femicides on the island.

This would be the 41st femicide so far this year. However, Cuban authorities have not provided official statistics or effective protection mechanisms for women.

The pain of a community that cries out for justice

On social media, family and friends have expressed their outrage and sadness.

User Yenisleydis Fuste wrote: "Life was unfair once again, taking a young mother full of life from the arms of her family. Diosdeisis Sandoval Dama, I will always remember you, my friend. What a shame for your little girl, who will suffer the most from not seeing you again. What a tragic death you had."

Real Odett Hernández, a friend of the victim, also reflected on the severity of gender violence: "Femicide annihilates and destroys families. We live in a world filled with sorrow and misfortune. Therefore, woman, open your eyes: if you are with a man who mistreats you, seek help; don’t stay there. It is very sad to lose lives for these reasons. We demand justice for the victims."

The tragedy of Diosdeisis Sandoval Dama highlights the vulnerability of Cuban women to male violence and the urgent need for effective measures to prevent further losses.

While the community mourns and demands justice, the question of the safety and protection of women in Cuba remains unanswered.
