Shortly after, the attacker came out into the street shouting offensive phrases, while Yumila attempted to follow him, visibly injured, and shortly thereafter collapsed on the sidewalk, as reported on Facebook by journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada.

The person identified as the perpetrator of the act is Jaime Yuniel Bazán Rodríguez, who reportedly fled the scene after the crime.
Unofficial reports suggest that he might be accompanied by his 17-year-old son.
Sources from the family and neighborhood environment have indicated that the relationship between Yumila Álvarez and Jaime Bazán was marked by episodes of violence, jealousy, and alcohol consumption.
According to testimonies, on the day of the crime, the victim had been socializing with some neighbors and returned home alone. Hours later, the fatal confrontation occurred.

So far, feminist platforms have not commented on the case.
This case adds to other femicides that have occurred in Cuba in recent months.
The femicide of Noralis Estenoz would raise the number of crimes due to male violence to 35 during 2025, based on the underreporting by independent feminist organizations.
The 34th femicide would be that of Noralis Estenoz, mother of three children murdered by her ex-partner on Saturday in the Versalles neighborhood, in the La Lisa municipality, in Havana.
In that case, the tragic incident occurred around 3:30 a.m., when the assailant -whose name has not been disclosed- broke into the victim's home and attacked her with a knife, resulting in her death.
The attacker tried to flee and “injured a police officer who attempted to stop him, but he was subdued after being shot.” Several people claimed that the individual died hours later in the hospital where he had been taken.
The Gender Observatory of the magazine Alas Tensas (OGAT) and the Yo Sí Te Creo en Cuba (YSTCC) observatory verified until the end of September 33 femicides in the country, highlighting the acute crisis of violence in Cuban society and the absence of effective protection protocols for women.
Since 2019 until October 1 of this year, both platforms documented 300 femicides in Cuba, a figure that represents only an underreporting of the macho violence that persists on the island.
