The effort and dedication of a group of Cuban athletes were demonstrated in Matanzas, where the twenty-seventh edition of the Provincial Bodybuilding and Fitness Championship 2025 took place.
The official portal Girón reported in a post on Facebook on Saturday that the event took place at the Las Palmas cultural center, sponsored by the Cuban Bodybuilding and Fitness Association.
The event brought together 18 competitors from the province, who demonstrated remarkable results despite the challenging economic context the country is facing.
According to the media, the championship aimed to promote health and physical exercise as a way of life.
However, the competition also highlights the contradiction between the nutritional demands imposed by this sport and the scarcity faced by Cubans, where even accessing a balanced diet becomes a daily challenge.
The president of the judges' committee in Matanzas, Dorian Hernández, explained that the event aims to consolidate the development of bodybuilding as a scientific and sporting discipline, although he acknowledged that provinces like Havana and Villa Clara have a stronger tradition in the movement.
In the results, Eliades Enrique Reynaldo Mesa was crowned absolute champion in the men's physique category, while Adonis Reyes Martínez took first place in bodybuilding. In the women's divisions, Shakira Barzaga triumphed in bikini fitness and Misleidis Quevedo in wellness.
The title for the best performer of the event went to Alexis Odelin Mora, who received the recognition for the third consecutive time. Meanwhile, Leonel Alfonso Monroy was voted as the most popular contestant of the championship.
Eliades Reynaldo Mesa himself highlighted the rigor of the prior preparation, characterized by a meticulously planned diet in a country where the scarcity of proteins and sports supplements is a daily reality.
"Preparing to compete is complex because it involves managing diet, exercise intensity, and fluid intake to achieve the best physical condition," he commented.
The event demonstrated that, even in a context of crisis and limitations, Cuban youth continue to prioritize discipline, personal growth, and the pursuit of a healthy lifestyle, despite the increasing obstacles posed by the economic environment.
In recent years, bodybuilding in Cuba has gained ground despite the economic limitations and food shortages faced by the athletes.
Improvised gyms, restrictive diets, and a strong discipline have become the routine for many young people who, even without specialized supplements, manage to compete at national and international levels.
In Matanzas, this passion has been reflected in various competitions where effort has surpassed scarcity.
During one of these events, local athletes stood out at the Bodybuilding and Fitness Festival, demonstrating that the interest in physical development does not wane despite daily challenges.
These gatherings have become spaces for personal growth and motivation for an entire generation that seeks to keep the training culture alive.
More recently, Cuba achieved remarkable results at the Bodybuilding Tournament in Moscow, where athletes from the island won nine gold medals and two silver.
This achievement showcased the quality and consistency of the competitors, who, without the usual resources found in other countries, managed to stand out on a high-level international stage.
