The Cuban doctor Leyanis C. Urrutia, known on social media as @leyanis__cubanayole, excitedly announced in a video that she has returned to practicing medicine in Spain, after a long process of degree validation and personal struggle.
"The wait is over. Today I return to work as a doctor in this country," stated the Cuban professional at the beginning of the video shared with her followers.
The doctor, who documented her experience on social media for months, recounted the more than two years of waiting for her degrees to be officially recognized, a process that affects hundreds of Cuban professionals abroad.
During that time, she worked as a waitress while waiting for the "not disqualified" document, an essential requirement to be registered and practice legally.
"It was six years of sacrifice, of hard work, that I didn’t want to let go to waste because saving lives is my reason for being," she said emotionally, proudly wearing her white coat.
Leyanis thanked her supporters and those who encouraged her not to give up during the process. “They always told me: keep going, your moment will come. And the moment has arrived,” she said with a smile.
The Cuban doctor also took the opportunity to send a message of encouragement to other professionals, especially her fellow Cubans, who are facing similar situations. “The path is not easy, but everything can be achieved. Everything comes in time. Consistency and perseverance always prevail in life.”
Its story reflects the effort and resilience of many doctors trained in Cuba who seek to reintegrate professionally in European countries, despite the lengthy bureaucratic processes.
