A 41 have now risen to the victims of femicide in Cuba during 2025, confirmed this Tuesday the gender observatories of the magazine Alas Tensas and Yo Sí Te Creo en Cuba.

Feminist platforms verified the crime of gender-based violence against Diosdaysis Sandoval Damas, a young mother and domestic worker in the La Güinera neighborhood of Arroyo Naranjo municipality in Havana, another case that confirms the rising spiral of extreme violence against women in recent weeks.

Sandoval was attacked in her home on November 13 by her ex-partner, who "dragged her and left her injured in the street, where family members came to her aid," stated the joint statement from the organizations.

The victim is survived by a small girl from a previous relationship, who will be under the care of her father.

The femicide of the young mother became known through reports from her family and other close ones on social media. According to reports, the woman was 28 years old, and her assailant, identified as Antonio Ferrer - "Tony" - stabbed her in the groin, inflicting a fatal wound. Despite efforts to assist her, the young woman died at the scene.

As of now, it has not been revealed whether his killer has been apprehended by the police.

In addition to 41 femicides, OGAT and YSTCC have documented, as of November 18, the murder of a man for gender-related reasons and 15 attempted femicides.

Three cases requiring access to the police investigation were reported: those of Hilda Puig Peña, Nieves Rosa Castrillo Núñez, and Fredesvinda Zaida Pérez Poey, while seven other possible femicides are under investigation in Camagüey (2), Artemisa (2), Santiago de Cuba (1), Villa Clara (1), and Granma (1).

From 2019 until October 1, 2025, independent platforms documented 300 femicides in Cuba, a figure that only reflects a partial reporting of the misogynistic crimes committed on the island.

The pattern of lethal violence against women is spreading throughout the national territory, without a response from the State commensurate with the magnitude of the problem.

Independent feminist organizations and other civil society groups have repeatedly demanded that the Cuban government enact a specific law against gender-based violence and implement effective public policies for the prevention, support, and compensation of victims, such as the establishment of shelters, emergency hotlines, and efficient reporting mechanisms.

However, to date, those demands have not been met.
