The Cuban reggaeton artist Yosvanis Sierra Hernández, Chocolate MC, spoke about his faith, his repentance, and the spiritual transformation he claims to have found after being convicted of soliciting the murder of Damián Valdez Galloso, the alleged perpetrator of the crime against fellow artist El Taiger.

In a telephone interview granted to Noticias 23 from his cell in the TGK jail in Miami-Dade County, the artist stated that his time in prison has allowed him to "reconnect with God" and move past a dark period marked by drug use and excesses.

"All this time I've been imprisoned, I'm here alone in a cell with my television. They give me my three meals, I buy something at the commissary, and I'm visited by psychiatrists, social workers, and the chaplain, who comes to teach me the word of God," he stated.

The performer of Bajanda shared that music, this time in the form of Christian praises, has become his spiritual refuge.

"I spend the day singing praises, and when I sing, I can't help but cry because it moves me deeply. These are glorious songs. I enjoy glorifying the Lord; I feel good when I sing to Him," he expressed excitedly.

Chocolate acknowledged that his life before the arrest was out of control: “I was already lost in drugs, but when what happened with El Taiger occurred, I completely lost my way. I lost the steering wheel of my life,” he confessed.

"Now I am imprisoned, without freedom and almost without life, but I found a reason to keep going," he emphasized.

The reggaeton artist assured that Christ's message has helped him to overcome hatred and resentment. From his cell, he sent a message of reconciliation both to his followers and to those who have criticized him.

"I, for Christ Jesus, learned to forgive, even the person who hurt me the most and harmed an entire community. I ask for forgiveness from everyone I have also harmed. Damián gains nothing from my forgiveness, because the forgiveness that truly matters is that of God; that is what Damián really needs," he stated.

Chocolate MC was found guilty of soliciting the murder of Valdez Galloso after a trial in which the prosecution presented a video showing the singer allegedly discussing paying for the crime.

The jury issued a guilty verdict after less than an hour of deliberation.

However, the musician insists on his innocence and claims that his trial was "manipulated."

"I didn't express myself the right way, but I am not capable of killing anyone," he stated in another recent interview with Telemundo 51.

His family, which reports irregularities in the process, has launched a campaign that has already gathered nearly 10,000 signatures to request that the judge grant him probation and rehabilitation instead of life imprisonment.

During the trial, witnesses and friends of the artist, such as singer La Diosa, agreed that Chocolate has been trapped in drug addiction and emotional instability for years.

His mother, Odalis Hernández, stated that “her son is not a murderer, but a sick man who needs help and treatment.”

The reggaeton artist himself admits that his past behavior was self-destructive, but he maintains that his present is guided by faith: “God gave me a new opportunity and I’m not going to waste it. Here, behind bars, I understood that the greatest freedom is not outside, but within the soul when one learns to forgive.”
