The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, condemned on Friday the decision of the government of the United States to close the airspace of Venezuela, calling it an “aggressive act” and a “serious violation of International Law”.
In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, the Cuban Foreign Minister stated that the measure "constitutes a direct threat to peace and regional stability," and accused Washington of promoting a military escalation against the government of Nicolás Maduro.
"We condemn the announcement by the #U.S. government to close the airspace of #Venezuela, an aggressive act for which no state has authority outside its national borders and should provoke the strongest rejection from the international community," Rodríguez wrote on X.
The diplomat added that the U.S. measure represents “a serious threat to International Law and a rise in the escalation of military aggression and the psychological warfare against the Venezuelan people and government”, with “unforeseeable and immeasurable consequences” for peace in Latin America and the Caribbean.
"We call on the international community and the people of the world to denounce the prelude to an illegitimate attack," concluded the Cuban foreign minister.
The message adds to a series of statements from allied governments of Venezuela, including Nicaragua and Bolivia, which also criticized the measure taken by Washington after the White House increased its military pressure on Maduro's regime.
The U.S. decision came after new air interdiction operations against vessels linked to drug trafficking in the Caribbean, and amid warnings from President Donald Trump, who stated this week that “the ground offensive against the narco-states of the hemisphere will begin very soon”.
