The social communicator and migration activist Carlos Eduardo Espina harshly criticized the United States Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, after a video surfaced in which the official allegedly celebrates her 54th birthday at a Mexican restaurant.

In the images shared on social media, Noem is seen smiling while they sing "happy birthday" to her in Spanish, and a waiter places a Mexican sombrero on her head.

"This is an insult to our people," Espina commented in his video. "Just look at how Kristi Noem celebrated her 54th birthday. Yes, the one responsible for deporting millions of Latinos celebrated by singing in Spanish and wearing a Mexican sombrero. And the worst part is seeing these Latinos applaud and celebrate her. It's truly embarrassing to witness this."

Noem was born in 1971. Her birthday is on November 30th. In the video, which has been shared by numerous profiles on social media, the smiling official can be seen, and she even responded to the waiters with a hearty "thank you" in Spanish.

The controversy arises amid the intensification of Noem's immigration rhetoric, one of the most radical figures in President Donald Trump's administration.

This week, the Secretary of Homeland Security publicly urged Trump to implement a total travel ban from countries that, according to her, have "flooded the nation with foreign invaders."

"I recommend a total ban on travel to all countries that have been flooding our nation with murderers, leeches, and welfare addicts," Noem wrote on X, prompting a wave of criticism for her xenophobic tone.

Meanwhile, activists like Espina warn that gestures such as her birthday celebration are nothing more than a display of "political hypocrisy" towards the Latin communities that Noem herself has labeled as a "threat."
