Child from Yaguajay remains in stable critical condition following surgery at the pediatric hospital in Sancti Spíritus

The in Sancti Spíritus reported that the 13-year-old boy from the municipality of Yaguajay, who was admitted to that institution, did not die and shows no signs of sexual abuse, thereby debunking rumors circulating on social media.

According to an official statement published by the hospital on its Facebook page, in the early hours of Tuesday, December 2, the multidisciplinary team of Anesthesia, Surgery, Pediatrics, and Therapy was activated "to assist and rescue a 13-year-old boy from the municipality of Yaguajay, who sustained multiple blunt force injuries."

The statement adds that the minor "was assisted and surgically operated on expertly by the team from Yaguajay" and is currently in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), "showing a favorable progression, despite the seriousness of the situation."

Dr. Ramón Aquino Lorenzo, the hospital director, signed the note and assured that the patient "has a multidisciplinary team for their care and has all the necessary resources for it."

In statements to the provincial newspaper Escambray, Aquino Lorenzo himself confirmed that the teenager is “in stable critical condition,” after having undergone surgery for “injuries to the internal organs, namely the spleen, pancreas, duodenum...”

The doctor also emphasized "the quick and professional action of the multidisciplinary team at the Joaquín Paneca Municipal Hospital in Yaguajay, who assisted and performed surgery on the adolescent" before his transfer to the provincial center.

The official reiterated that, despite the multiple physical injuries the minor has, "there is no evidence of sexual abuse."

Until now, health authorities have not specified the causes that led to the injuries of the teenager. Both the hospital and the provincial health department emphasized that false information is circulating about the case and urged people to refer only to official sources.
