The information was shared on Facebook this Wednesday by the profile “Truths Through Mobile”, managed by the Ministry of the Interior (Minint), which published a photo of the detained inmate but did not reveal his name.
According to the publication, in a “flash operation,” agents from the Search and Capture and Technical Investigation departments (DTI) of the 2nd Police Station of the municipality of Camagüey apprehended the individual who had escaped from the La Empresita Open Unit and returned him to prison.
The arrest of the fugitive took place on San Ramón street in the city of Camagüey, where neighbors reported his presence, noted the statement, which praised the “coordination between the community and the authorities” as the factor that enabled the man's recapture “in record time.”
Police sources confirmed that, as a consequence of his escape to evade justice, the inmate had his "right to prison benefits such as passes" revoked.
The note emphasized that the detainee is “known for his poor social behavior and multiple criminal records,” but did not specify which ones. It also did not disclose the crime for which he is imprisoned or the criminal penalty he is serving.
The profile celebrated the police operation, noting that it “reinforces the commitment of law enforcement to guarantee public safety,” but it refrained from referencing the obvious security failure of the prison system.
In August of last year, two inmates deemed highly dangerous escaped from the provincial prison of Ciego de Ávila, known as “Canaleta.”
The authorities issued an official search alert and requested citizen cooperation, given the history of murder, extreme violence, and recidivism of both inmates. One of them was escaping from prison for the second time this year. They were captured days later in an operation by the Minint.
