Cuban activist Amelia Calzadilla denounced on Thursday the creation of a Facebook group that uses her name and image without permission, warning her followers of a possible smear campaign driven by supporters of the regime.

“A few days ago, my aunt asked me if I had created a Facebook group to share my posts, to which I responded that I had not,” Calzadilla explained in a post on his official profile.

The opposition member tried to reach out to the group administrator, but never received a response. Initially, she believed it was a well-intentioned initiative; however, as days went by, "posts completely contrary to my ideals" began to appear, including messages against other opposition members and the Cuban exile community.

Calzadilla asserted that he has proof that "Castrist clarias" are using the group to spread propaganda and sow division among activists. "They have not only limited themselves to using my name, but also my image," he reported.

The activist publicly requested that her identity be removed from that space and reminded that the only official channels she uses are her personal page, that of her organization Ciudadanía y Libertad, and that of her husband, Tony Díaz.

Calzadilla urged his followers not to be deceived and to report fake profiles.
