A young man from Santiago, identified as Leonardo Lagomarsini, reported being the victim of a violent assault on the night of Thursday, December 5, while passing by the entrance of Salao in Santiago de Cuba.

The independent journalist reported that Lagomarsini was intercepted by two individuals who brutally beat him and stole the motorcycle he was riding.

The young man shared that the rain and a slight delay in his return home caught him off guard during the journey. While he was driving along the road, he received a call from acquaintances who informed him that he had forgotten his helmet.

At that moment, a man with an arm in a sling approached him and asked him to take him to the Salao.

"I felt sorry for him and put him on the motorcycle, but when we reached the entrance of the neighborhood, he hit me with something hard and I became immobilized, though still conscious. Several people were nearby, but when they saw what was happening, they got scared and backed away," the young man recounted.

During the attack, a second accomplice appeared, taking advantage of the confusion to get on the motorcycle and flee the scene, while the first attacker continued to hit the victim and push her towards a thicket.

The assault occurred between 6:30 and 7:00 p.m., in an area known for its danger, especially on the way up to Micro 1-A, where residents have reported similar incidents.

"I let my guard down because people were coming, kids were singing, and a bus was lighting the way, but everything happened too quickly," Lagomarsini lamented.

After the incident, the young man filed a report with the authorities, who have issued an alert to locate the stolen motorcycle. He also stated that he is offering a reward to anyone who provides reliable information that helps recover it.

This new case is part of a wave of thefts and assaults that have left Cubans on edge, amidst a growing sense of insecurity and a lack of effective responses from the regime. An increasing number of citizens are turning to social media to report violence and seek support, in the face of the silence from official institutions.
