Cuban authorities have arrested three cattlemen who allegedly stole five pregnant mares and a donkey in the municipality of Guanabacoa, Havana.

The subjects were arrested in the Habana Nueva neighborhood of Guanabacoa after several robberies and the reports made by the farmers, the official page El Cubano Fiel reported on Facebook.

The detained individuals stole on November 26 from the Vista Hermosa estate in Bacuranao, 5 foaling mares and one donkey, according to the information.

At the site of the detention, a live animal was recovered, and "the investigation continues to locate the others," the post states, although at least one dead mare is visible in the released images, being dismantled.

In recent years, the actions of slaughterhouses and clandestine animal sacrifice networks have raised alarms in various Cuban provinces.

In October, four slaughterers were arrested in Ciego de Ávila after being accused of systematically stealing livestock from farmers in the La Palma area, where they operated with complete impunity.

In Holguín, a man was captured on video while sacrificing a horse in broad daylight, which caused outrage and fear among the neighbors due to the impunity with which he acted.

A few weeks later, in Granma, the authorities arrested a group of butchers who were transporting beef in several private vehicles.

The operation dismantled a network that was illegally trading meat products in the region, without health controls or legal authorization.

In Havana, the police have also taken action against this type of crime. A network of slaughterers was dismantled by law enforcement after a clandestine slaughter point was discovered, where they operated without hygiene conditions or permits, directly affecting public health.

Since 2023, Villa Clara has also reported similar incidents. A butcher was caught with the remains of seven cows in his possession, highlighting the scale of cattle thefts in the province.

In another case, a Cuban was caught with over 600 pounds of stolen beef and horse meat, being transported without proper documentation or refrigeration.
