The Cuban political prisoner Yosvany Rosell García Caso continues his recovery process at the Lucía Íñiguez Landín Clinical Surgical Hospital in Holguín, after having spent 40 days on hunger strike, which brought him to the brink of death.
According to his wife, Mailin Sánchez, the young man is currently hospitalized in the intermediate care unit, where he is receiving intravenous hydration, vitamins, and medication to restore the function of his stomach and affected organs.
“Today, after five days, he is gradually recovering, staying hydrated with IV fluids and eating. Thanks to God and everyone’s prayers”, Sánchez expressed in a post accompanied by messages of solidarity and hashtags advocating for the freedom of Cuban political prisoners.
Yosvany Rosell's family expressed gratitude for the support received from both inside and outside Cuba, highlighting the importance of international pressure to raise awareness of the cases of political prisoners who remain incarcerated for their beliefs.
The case of García Caso has been reported by organizations such as Amnesty International and the Cuban Observatory of Human Rights (OCDH), which have demanded from the Cuban regime the immediate release of all political prisoners, many of whom face critical health conditions due to mistreatment and lack of medical care in prisons.
The hashtags used by activists on social media, such as #LibertadParaYosvanyRosellGarciaCaso and #LibertadParaTodosLosPresosPoliticos, have gone viral on platforms like Facebook and X (formerly Twitter), where many Cubans both inside and outside the island are calling for justice and respect for human rights.
García Caso is serving a 15-year sentence for participating in the 11J protests in Holguín.
In October, the hunger strike began, lasting for 40 agonizing days, as a protest against his unjust imprisonment and the inhumane conditions of the prison facilities under the control of the Havana regime.
