A small plane crashed on Wednesday into offices located on the runway in the town of Las Nuevas, in the municipality of La Sierpe, one of the areas with the highest rice production in Cuba.
The accident of the crop-dusting plane model 18-1832 caused material damage, but no injuries have been reported.
According to the newspaper Escambray, the incident occurred around 6:55 in the morning, when the aircraft collided with the administrative infrastructure for reasons that will be investigated.
Eyewitnesses indicated that the impact caused damage to部分 of the premises.
Preliminarily, it was reported that the small aircraft experienced a brake failure, causing it to crash into the offices.
The crew, consisting of the pilot and a technician, was unharmed, according to official information.
The director of the airline operating the flight confirmed to Escambray that a team of experts has been dispatched to the site to assess the causes of the incident and the material damages.
Aircraft of this type are commonly used in Cuba for agricultural spraying and assisting in firefighting efforts, the source emphasized.
The accident that occurred in Sancti Spíritus is not an isolated incident in Cuban agricultural aviation. In September, a spraying plane crashed in the municipality of Venezuela, in Ciego de Ávila, after experiencing a failure during landing on a rural runway.
Although the pilot managed to survive, the aircraft was completely destroyed and caused alarm among the agricultural workers in the area.
In another similar incident reported last year in Sancti Spíritus, an aircraft crashed while performing fumigation maneuvers in a hard-to-reach area, causing injuries to the pilot and severe damage to the structure of the aircraft.
That event also triggered an investigation into the technical condition of the aircraft used in state agricultural activities.
