The young Cuban shortstop Jonathan Moreno, only 18 years old, signed a contract with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks of the Japanese Professional Baseball League (NPB), securing a bonus of $100,000.

The journalist Francys Romero stated on his social media that Moreno, one of the most promising talents from the new generation of Cuban baseball players, caught the attention of numerous MLB scouts during the Under-18 World Cup, where he stood out for his Premium level defense, with the potential for a Gold Glove, and an offensive profile that is expected to lead to a high batting average.

According to the agency Prensa Latina, the protocol was led by Juan Reinaldo Pérez Pardo, president of the Cuban Baseball and Softball Federation, and the International Scouting Director of the Japanese team, Guri Matsumoto.

The Fukuoka organization, one of the most successful and structured in Japanese baseball, is betting on the potential of the Cuban shortstop and on his capacity for long-term development within their training system.

Moreno's signing confirms the growing interest of Japanese baseball in the island's young talent, especially in key defensive positions such as shortstop.
