The U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, congratulated the newly elected president of Chile, José Antonio Kast, after his victory in the elections, and assured that Washington is ready to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the areas of regional security and trade.

“Congratulations to the elected president of Chile, José Antonio Kast, on his victory. The United States looks forward to partnering with his administration to strengthen regional security and revitalize our trade relationship,” Rubio wrote on his official X account, after the leader of the Chilean Republican Party confirmed his win with more than 59% of the votes.

Rubio's message adds to the congratulations sent from the U.S. Congress by Cuban-American legislators María Elvira Salazar and Carlos Giménez, who celebrated the political shift in Chile and highlighted Kast as an ally in the defense of democracy and the fight against communism in Latin America.

"The people of Chile spoke clearly," Salazar stated in his message, while Giménez expressed his hope to "work closely to shake our hemisphere free from communism and violence."

Both emphasized that the victory of the Chilean politician represents support for policies of order, security, and free market.

With the election of José Antonio Kast, Chile will experience a political shift to the right following the mandate of the leftist Gabriel Boric.

The newly elected president has promised to promote an "emergency government" focused on immigration control, the fight against crime, and the economic strengthening of the country.

The recognition of republican figures in the United States reflects Washington's interest in strengthening its relationship with Santiago and promoting a hemispheric alliance based on stability, free trade, and democratic security in the region.
