In Cuba, surprises sent by relatives from the United States have become a tradition that blends love, nostalgia, and hope. Through specialized companies, Cubans abroad manage to send gifts, messages, and emotions to their loved ones on the island. This was the case with José Ángel, a son who decided to honor his parents in Güines, Mayabeque, for their wedding anniversary and his father's birthday.
The video, posted on TikTok by @rabinosexy, shows the arrival of a surprise at the couple's home. A representative from the company, microphone in hand, announces from the street: “We bring you a gift, several gifts. Today we know that you are celebrating a wedding anniversary, and your son José Ángel wants to treat you with a lovely present. No tears, please; I want these tears to be of happiness.” Beside her, two characters in costumes—a bear and a pink bunny—hold balloons and flowers.
Amidst laughter, applause, and the curiosity of the neighbors, the parents step out onto the porch. The lady with the surprise continues: “This gift is for your wedding anniversary, but there’s something more: your son has sent you some words”. Then an audio recording begins to play, featuring the voice of José Ángel: “I congratulate my parents for their dedication and commitment to one another. The years you have spent together through thick and thin are my example to follow. My little one, you are my pride. I dedicate this song to you as a testament to true love.”
The words make the mother cry, while the father tries to hold back his emotions. “I see another year go by without being able to be together, without being able to hug you and tell you congratulations. You are my superhero without a cape. I ask you to hang on a little longer; I don't believe that God, seeing my suffering, will force us to be apart for another year. Hold on, it's almost over. I love you, mom”.
The messenger continues with the gifts: a "Birthday Boy" sash for the father, several packs of beer, and bags full of products. Then another audio message arrives, this time dedicated to dad: “I want to hug you on a day like today. I know that before anything material, you would prefer my presence. I hold on to the faith that we will see each other again soon. When that moment comes, the distance will just be a memory. I love you.”
Finally, a song plays, and the parents take each other's hands to dance while those present watch them with affection. Among the neighbors, laughter, shouts, and even cries can be heard. José Ángel's gesture, from afar, manages to fill a Cuban home marked by waiting and distance with love and joy.
The video quickly surpassed eight thousand reactions and hundreds of comments. “I thought one of the dolls was the son,” wrote a user. “What a beautiful detail, I cried as if they were my parents,” commented another. The creator of the video, RabinoSexy, confirmed that the scene was filmed in Pastorita, Güines, and added: “I have gone nine years without being able to hug my parents, but I know that moment will come soon. Distance is no reason for forgetfulness.”
This story, as Cuban as it is emotional, reminds us that even though miles may separate us, a child's love always finds a way to reach home.
