The Miami-Dade Police arrested this week the Cuban Learsis Flores Martínez, 46 years old, accused of a mortgage fraud exceeding $300,000.

According to agents from the Miami-Dade County Sheriff's Office (MDSO) belonging to the organized crime unit, Flores Martínez used a fake driver's license to impersonate the owner of a vacant lot in Southwest Ranches and carry out a fraudulent mortgage operation.

The Cuban was arrested on Monday and is facing four charges: first-degree grand theft, organized fraud, mortgage fraud, and possession of a fake driver's license, reported the local press.

According to the arrest report, the incident occurred on June 10, 2024, during the closure of an operation at Land View Title Service, where Flores Martínez presented false documentation and obtained a $325,000 mortgage from a private lender.

Subsequently, he instructed Land View Title Service to transfer $294,151 to a Chase Bank account belonging to a company registered in the name of the true owner of the land, authorities indicated.

Flores Martínez managed that account and moved the money through transfers, Zelle payments, and cash withdrawals.

The private lender filed a claim of fraud with First American Title Insurance Company -the insurer of Land View Titles-, which reported the case to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office.

After an investigation, the police arrested the suspect in his apartment in the southwest of Miami-Dade County.

Flores Martínez was incarcerated at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he remains in custody, and his bond was set at $260,000.
