The name of Donald J. Trump has been added to the facade of the historic Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., a major arts center that has been at the heart of the cultural politics of Trumpism.
The decision was made by the board of the institution, whose members were appointed by Trump in February, claiming that the Kennedy Center was part of the woke agenda, reported El País.
On Friday, four workers got to work and added the name of the president to the facade of the building so that the center will be called The Donald J. Trump and John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts.
The now Trump and Kennedy Center hosts 2,000 events a year, and among its various halls stand out the symphony hall (2,500 people) and the opera theater (2,300).
The decision to rename the institution overlooked the Congress that established it in 1964, leaving the legality of the maneuver unclear.
Recently, Trump made another controversial decision: he decreed that the national parks in the United States will be free on his birthday, while eliminating free entry on symbolic days for the Black community such as Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Juneteenth, which commemorates the end of slavery in the country.
