A Cuban mother is experiencing moments of anguish since the disappearance of her son three days ago in the city of Bayamo, in Granma province.
Niurka Botello issued an alert on Friday, worried about the whereabouts of her son Rennes Herrera Botello, who left the house on Thursday morning and has not returned or contacted the family since.
Desperate, Botello urgently requested help to find the young man, who, she claimed, usually does not leave home without informing her first.
"Please, to all my friends and acquaintances, since yesterday morning my son left the house and now it is this time and he hasn’t arrived. He usually doesn't go out and not return; when he goes to stay at a friend's house, he calls and lets me know," she wrote on Facebook. "If anyone has seen him or has any information, please here is my number, I am desperate, 58796517."
The grieving mother has been posting daily messages on social media pleading for help to find Rennes, and she has expressed her gratitude for the concern many people have shown for her situation.
This Sunday, she shared a heartfelt message addressed to her son, in which she pleads with him to get in touch with her: “Today your sister posted your picture, you together; she is your blood and mine. I ask you by God, if anyone sees this post and can pass it on to you, please, my son, respond. Where are you? You have no idea how broken my heart is, and your sisters are just as shattered as I am. This phone is too small for all the people who write to me at any hour asking about you.”
"I beg you to come home for the love of God, my heart is shattered. Call your sister Lila, who is suffering, call me, but do it soon because my mother's heart is bleeding. You know how I am with all three of you; without you, the wheel of life doesn't turn. Please, Rennes, call me, give me signs of life, I need to hear your voice," the mother implored.
Botello has not provided details about the clothing his son was wearing when he left their home on Thursday, December 18, nor whether he mentioned where he was heading.
Activists and social media news profiles have shared a plea for help in locating the young man.
In Cuba, there are no official protocols for searching for missing persons. Due to the lack of state channels and ineffective action from the authorities, Cuban families turn to social media to request the community's help in locating their loved ones.
