The disappearance of Maileivys Martín, a Cuban mother residing in Nuevitas, Camagüey, remains unresolved more than a year and a half after the events.
The young woman, also known as "Pucha" by her family and friends, was last seen on Monday, May 6, 2024, when she allegedly traveled to the city of Camagüey to take an eyebrow course, as reported by her cousin Rolymily Gongar on social media.
Who is Maileivys?
At the time of her disappearance, Maileivys was 36 years old.
She is the mother of two girls who are still waiting for their mother at home.
As a distinctive physical characteristic, her family members note that she has her eyebrows and lips tattooed, which gives her a always made-up appearance.
A search that does not cease
This week, the Gender Observatory Alas Tensas (OGAT) once again shared the case of this young woman and demanded that the authorities find her.
OGAT and the feminist platform YoSíTeCreo in Cuba launched the campaign "DON'T FORGET ME," aimed at raising awareness about the situation of missing persons in Cuba and their families.
Since the day of his disappearance, the family has initiated an intensive search and reported the case to the local police authorities, although so far, his whereabouts have not been clarified.
Family members shared several contact numbers for anyone who may have information: the father of the young woman, Manuel Martín Cortada, can be reached at (+53) 54 459 956, and an additional number is (+53) 53 272 282.
Do we know what happened to Maileivys?
Throughout this time, the family has reported the inaction of the authorities.
In September last year, Rolymily posted a desperate message on Facebook indicating that there is a man whom the family believes is responsible for her disappearance, and who is currently in prison for other illegal activities, but has not confessed to the crime.
"A trial has not yet been held for this crime (which we believe he committed), we are desperate and fear that at any moment he will be released as if nothing happened, and my cousin will just be another statistic," she expressed.
"Cuban authorities have done nothing about it, only dragging their feet and stating that it is still under investigation," he emphasized.
So far, the community and the family continue to demand answers and concrete measures to clarify the disappearance of Maileivys Martín, reminding us that, nearly 18 months after the events, each day without information represents a growing anguish
