Two 16-year-old teenagers reported missing from Moa, in Holguín, have been found safe and sound, as confirmed by the father of one of them, Raúl Leyet, through a post in the Facebook group "Basar Moa Centro. Guarantee and good prices."
The news brings an end to two days of anguish for family members, neighbors, and friends, following an intense search primarily driven by social media.
"Thank God and the saints, and that miraculous San Lázaro, they appeared safe and sound," wrote Leyet, relieved after the girls were found.
The man expressed that his greatest fear during the days of her disappearance was that his daughter, María de Jesús, might suffer a serious health crisis due to her diabetes and other chronic illnesses that require constant attention. As he had explained previously, the minor even needs support with oxygen and medical equipment at home.
The disappearance was reported when the teenagers supposedly left for school and never returned home.
According to reports published by their father and other relatives, both young women - María de Jesús and Darlin Díaz - were subsequently seen in the city of Holguín, which intensified concern and prompted notifications to the police both in Moa and at the provincial level.
During the days that the teenagers were missing, Leyet used several Facebook groups to request urgent help, share photographs, describe her daughter's physical characteristics, and provide phone numbers for any information about her whereabouts.
In those publications, he also warned about what he described as a growing phenomenon of child corruption, manipulation, and the exploitation of girls through false promises related to money and prostitution, a situation that, he stated, is not limited solely to Moa.
After the girls were confirmed to have been found, their father stated that both returned home with a strong emotional impact.
"They appeared safe and sound but deeply traumatized from having experienced the world of the street in such a short time, all alone, far from the love of their parents and families," he wrote.
He also pointed out that the family spent entire nights fearing they would receive tragic news, given the current insecurity in the streets.
"Many are aware that on the streets there is prostitution, drugs, weapons, theft, and the use of fake profiles for solicitation, but I am not going to fix that; I am not God. That is the job of the authorities."
In his subsequent messages, Leyet insisted that his public reaction was motivated solely by the love and desperation of a father in the face of his daughter's disappearance.
He rejected the criticism received and emphasized that his priority was always for the minor to return alive and in stable health conditions.
He also stated that it is now the authorities' responsibility to investigate the events and administer justice if any crimes were committed, while reiterating his concern about the existence of predators and networks that endanger girls and teenagers.
The case generated extensive community mobilization on social media, with calls to share information and protect minors. It also brought back to the forefront of the debate the vulnerability of adolescents and the need for greater family, social, and institutional protection to prevent such situations
