The increase in arboviral cases forced authorities to carry out a health "intervention" in the rural locality of Velasco, in the municipality of Gibara, Holguín.
According to state media, which did not provide details on the number of cases or their severity, nearly 100 health professionals and students from "Medical Sciences" carried out actions for specialized assistance, active surveillance, and vector control.
Representatives from 20 medical specialties arrived at the location with the aim of bringing "healthcare to hard-to-reach areas."
Medical students, for their part, conducted active research "aimed at identifying cases that require a more rigorous clinical evaluation and specialized follow-up."
A "wide-scale fumigation operation" was also carried out in homes and public spaces.
Health crisis
The Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) confirmed a total of 55 fatalities and 43 patients reported as serious due to arbovirosis in Cuba, as reported by Deputy Minister Carilda Peña García.
The official explained that the increase in cases is primarily linked to the circulation of the dengue and chikungunya viruses, although she assured that no new cases of Oropouche fever have been diagnosed in recent days.
Of the deceased, 18 were due to dengue and the rest from chikungunya, and the majority of the victims are under 18 years old, he explained.
The MINSAP official also noted that 43 patients remain hospitalized in intensive care units, a number that represents an increase of five cases compared to the previous day, and that most of the critically ill patients are under 18 years old.
"Yesterday, 2,188 people with febrile syndrome were evaluated, the majority monitored at home and without the need for hospital admission," detailed Peña García during his appearance on Canal Caribe.
According to MINSAP, the dengue incidence rate stands at 8.32, a figure lower than that of the same period in 2024 (12.31), although transmission remains active in all provinces of the country.
The deputy minister reported that there were 372 new suspected cases of chikungunya, of which 27 were confirmed by laboratory.
As of now, Cuba has reported a total of 47,756 cases of the disease, of which 46,053 are suspected and 1,703 are confirmed.
