A Cuban living in Peru has moved thousands of social media users with his contagious happiness upon receiving his first Christmas bonus and a coupon to buy a Christmas turkey.
Her story went viral on TikTok, where it has amassed over two million views, and has also been featured by Peruvian media such as La República.
The content creator, known as @jerez_92 on TikTok and recognized for his series CUBAneando en Perú, shared his excitement upon arriving at the pickup point with his coupon in hand. “The turkey has arrived, gentlemen, happy holidays, let’s enjoy it with good vibes,” he celebrated in the video while showcasing his prize: a turkey.
I'm seeing that they're not turkeys, they're ostriches, the Cuban joked upon noticing the size of the bird.
“I was talking to the girl and she says that this turkey usually costs 155 soles and I only paid 15.50. Incredible!” he shared in his video, which quickly filled up with comments from Peruvians congratulating him on his enthusiasm.
In Cuba, these types of labor benefits, such as Christmas bonuses or food vouchers, do not exist. Meat products are extremely expensive, and this year many Cubans on the island will not be able to afford them.
The surprise and joy of Jerez were genuine. In another of his clips, he appears dancing with the turkey in his arms, in a gesture that internet users described as "the most sincere happiness of Christmas."
Jerez said that he hasn't decided yet whether he will cook the turkey for Christmas Eve or New Year's, but what he is certain about is that he will dedicate an entire day to prepare it. “I am going to use a Peruvian recipe; I want it to turn out spectacular,” he stated excitedly.
In addition to the turkey, the Cuban received a small detail that completed his happiness: a 2026 calendar as part of the exchange. “A nice gesture,” he assured.
In Cuba, obtaining a turkey can involve long lines or prohibitive prices, so on social media, Cubans have been sending congratulations for this unique gift that life has given them in Peru.
Enjoy your turkey, brother, you deserve it, a user wrote on TikTok.
Meanwhile, the young man promises to document the complete preparation of his turkey so that his followers — Cubans and Peruvians — can celebrate with him his first Christmas with bonuses and without queues.
