A story of love and hope has touched thousands of users on social media. A Cuban identified on TikTok as @hildacuba66 shared an emotional video where she remembers the day her partner proposed to her at the famous tourist spot in Key West, known for the sign that reads “90 Miles to Cuba.”

“He proposed to me at the point closest to my Cuba. He knew that what I loved most was in that country: my daughter. Two years later, he went to Cuba and brought her to me,” wrote the woman in the video, which has garnered thousands of views and comments.

In the recording, the couple appears smiling next to the iconic Southernmost Point monument, the southernmost tip of the continental United States.

For many Cubans, that place symbolizes both the closeness and emotional distance from the island, separated by just 90 miles of sea, but also by decades of family separation and migration restrictions.

The gesture of the man who decided to travel to Cuba to reunite a mother with her daughter has been applauded by hundreds of users who highlighted the courage and empathy behind his action. “There is no greater love than returning a daughter to her mother,” commented a thrilled user.

The story, which blends romance, nostalgia, and hope, adds to the many experiences that reflect the uprooting and barriers faced by Cuban families separated by migration, but also the strength of love that manages to bring them together despite the distance.
