The Cuban mother Niurka Botello was able to put an end to her anguish after the appearance this Tuesday of her son Rennes Herrera Botello, who had been missing for six days in the city of Bayamo, in Granma.
Botello shared the news on his Facebook profile, with a heartfelt message in which he expressed gratitude to all the people who cared and supported him during successive days of distress and uncertainty due to not knowing the whereabouts of the young man.
"Blessed by the one above, thank God, my son has just appeared,” she wrote, and then added that she would keep discretion regarding the delicate matter: “I kindly ask that you please do not inquire, only what is necessary, I will not provide information, except to closer individuals.”
"I want to thank, very, very infinitely, all the lovely people who called me, wrote to me, and worried every minute, every second, every hour, every day for me and my son," she expressed. "This mother has no words of gratitude for each one of the people who called at any hour, from both inside and outside the country, to the fellow mothers who, like me, were very attentive to every post and all those who prayed to God and formed a beautiful chain of prayer."
“A thousand blessings to everyone, God is immense”, he concluded.
Rennes Herrera Botello left his home on the morning of Thursday, December 18, and from that moment on, his family has not heard from him.
The next day, the grieving mother posted an alert on Facebook about her son's disappearance and urgently requested help to find him. She stated that her son does not typically leave home without informing her, which heightened her concern.
In the midst of increasing distress, the woman reported that unscrupulous individuals attempted to scam her by taking advantage of her pain.
He revealed that unknown individuals had called and written to him asking for money, claiming to have information about the whereabouts of his son. Botello described such actions as a cruel abuse against a desperate mother.
In her post, she also clarified that her son does not use drugs or get involved in bad company, and expressed her confidence that he was in Bayamo or its surroundings.
The disappearance of Rennes sparked solidarity on social media, where activists and informational profiles shared the report to help locate him.
In Cuba, there are no effective official protocols for the search for missing persons. Due to the lack of state channels and the ineffective response from authorities, families turn to social media to raise awareness of cases and request the community's assistance.
