A large fire occurred on Saturday morning on a 60-foot yacht docked at a marina in Miami Beach, with no injuries reported, local authorities reported.
The fire started just before 9:00 a.m. in the 300 block of Alton Road, an area of docks where dozens of recreational boats are moored.
Six units from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to the scene to support the firefighters from Miami Beach and the city of Miami in their firefighting efforts, reported the media outlet Local 10.
According to official reports, the flames spread quickly and proved difficult to control as they originated in a sealed compartment at the back of the yacht.
Emergency teams worked with several lines of hoses, dewatering maneuvers, and fuel containment to prevent further damage.
The Department of Environmental Resource Management of the county was notified to assess possible ecological impacts from the fuel spill or other waste resulting from the fire.
A video shared with Local 10 News by viewer Allison Guzman shows the thick column of smoke rising over the area after the incident, visible from several points in the city.
So far, authorities have not determined the cause of the fire nor confirmed the total material damages; meanwhile, the luxurious yacht remains partially burned.
