The Cuban opposition leader José Daniel Ferrer García reported that his wife, Dr. Nelva Ismaray Ortega, had to be urgently transferred to Jackson Memorial Hospital due to complications in her health condition during pregnancy.

Through a message posted on Facebook and a video addressed to friends, compatriots, and members of the Cuban community, Ferrer explained that his wife is experiencing intense pain and increased bleeding, despite previous medical treatment and the rest recommended the day before for similar issues.

"My wife is back in the emergency room... She continues to experience severe pain and bleeding. The treatment and rest haven’t helped yet," he wrote, while asking for prayers and well wishes for both her and the baby she is expecting.

In his video testimony, Ferrer detailed that the situation necessitated a new hospital transfer due to the worsening of symptoms.

He explained that he could not accompany her because he is taking care of his mother, who is bedridden, and his six-year-old son, Daniel José.

According to his account, during the morning, his wife had tried to relieve herself with painkillers and rest, but her condition worsened.

The opposition leader emphasized that the emotional impact of the situation has been particularly hard on his wife, who, he said, is more affected by the possibility of losing the pregnancy than by the physical pain itself.

"She really wants to, and I want it too, to give our little Daniel José a little brother or sister," she expressed.

Ferrer attributed the deterioration of his wife's health to the physical efforts made days earlier, amid a complex family situation, and reiterated his call for the spiritual solidarity of friends, family, and loved ones.

"Please pray, ask God for the health of my wife and for that developing baby," he insisted.

The news comes shortly after Ferrer publicly announced that his wife is pregnant, a piece of information he had shared with enthusiasm, while also warning from the outset that the pregnancy presented significant risks.

At that moment, he explained that Nelva had gone to the hospital after experiencing lower abdominal pain and bleeding, following several days of discomfort that worsened after exerting herself physically while caring for the opposition leader's mother, who is currently dealing with a fractured leg.

According to the information provided, the doctor was in the early weeks of pregnancy, received medical care, clinical tests, and medication, and was sent home with instructions for complete rest and close monitoring.

The couple, who have built their relationship amidst political persecution, community work, and exile, have publicly shared the emotional significance of this pregnancy.

For both, the possibility of expanding the family represents not only personal joy but also a sign of hope after years marked by pressures, limitations, and challenges.

For now, Ferrer has requested respect, support, and prayers, while his wife remains under medical observation, with the hope that the specialists will be able to stabilize her condition and protect the life that is in development.
