A woman died after being shot in Little Havana during a shooting that occurred this weekend in that popular neighborhood of Miami.
The shooting occurred shortly before midnight on December 27, in the vicinity of the 1800 block of Southwest 3rd Court.
Miami police officers responded to the scene after receiving reports of gunfire and found a woman injured with a gunshot wound.
She was attended to at the scene by paramedics from the Fire Department and transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where she ultimately passed away.
What has drawn the most attention in the media coverage is the possibility that the woman was not the intended target of the shot.
According to a report by Univision, the shooting "would not have been directed at her", although this hypothesis has not been officially confirmed.
So far, neither the identity nor the age of the victim has been released. Authorities stated that they would not provide that information until the victim's family has been properly notified.
It is also unknown what the woman was doing at the location at the time of the shooting.
Neighbors interviewed by Univision indicated that the victim was accompanied by a man at the time of his death.
Others indicated that the area has become more complicated in recent times, with a growing presence of the homeless and drugs in the region.
No arrests, no suspects, no explanation
The investigation is still ongoing and, as of Sunday morning, authorities had not announced any arrests or publicly identified any suspects.
The case remains shrouded in secrecy.
The official Kiara Delva, spokesperson for the police, stated that the officers found the woman after responding to a report of gunfire, but did not provide details about witnesses, surveillance cameras, possible motives, or investigative hypotheses.
The scene remained cordoned off until the early hours of the morning.
According to Local 10, investigators placed evidence markers on the ground and searched for fingerprints in the area.
It has not been reported whether the weapon was recovered or if there were additional injured individuals.
The absence of a detailed official version and limited access to community sources have made it difficult to accurately understand what happened
For now, everything suggests that it was a sudden violent act in which a woman—seemingly innocent and unrelated to the conflict—ended up losing her life.
Little Havana is much more than a Latino neighborhood in Miami. It is a cultural symbol for thousands of Cubans and other Hispanic communities who have made this area their refuge and home.
Although it is not listed among the most dangerous areas of the city, it is not free from the outbreaks of violence that occasionally erupt harshly into the daily life of its residents.
As of the closing of this report, there is no additional information about what happened.
