The streets of Havana woke up this January 1st enveloped in a silence that contrasts with the old New Year celebrations.

A video published by the Cuban content creator Jonix Doce shows central avenues completely empty, closed businesses, and buildings in evident disrepair, reflecting the wear and tear affecting the Cuban capital.

It's noticeable that it's cold, may God bless Cuba, commented a user, while others lamented the sadness of the moment: How much sadness, what deterioration... a country that used to be so beautiful or My Cuba is sad, look at the loneliness.

The reactions, flooded with crying emojis and broken hearts, reflect the discouragement of many Cubans in the face of the prolonged crisis and the lack of hope that characterized the beginning of 2026.

The video, recorded in various locations around central Havana, depicts a city that seems almost immobile, where life appears to have retreated indoors.

Without music, without parties or traffic, the capital resembles a melancholic postcard of a weary country, where each dawn feels more like a reminder of disillusionment and the anticipation of a change that does not come.
