The Venezuelan community in exile, primarily based in Miami, erupted in jubilation this Saturday upon learning of the capture of Nicolás Maduro by U.S. forces in an operation ordered by President Donald Trump.
The streets of Miami quickly filled with hundreds of people waving flags from Venezuela, Cuba, and the United States, amidst tears, hugs, and shouts of "Venezuela is free!" at El Arepazo.
Many of the exiles who fled the Chavista regime over the past two decades described the event as "the most anticipated day of their lives."
“Nothing compares to this. Thank you, my God, thank you, God,” expressed a Venezuelan woman in statements to Telemundo51.
Trump announced the capture of Nicolás Maduro and his wife. He added that both were "transferred out of Venezuela" following the military incursion aimed at restoring democracy and ending the criminal Chavista regime.
The U.S. president will hold a press conference this Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Mar-a-Lago to provide more details about the operation.
Thousands of Venezuelans in South Florida continue to gather in squares and avenues, singing the national anthem and dreaming of returning soon to a free and democratic Venezuela.
