The businessman Elon Musk announced his support for the people of Venezuela following the capture of the dictator Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, in a U.S. military operation on Saturday.
Through his account on X, Musk shared a message with the Venezuelan flag and the phrase: “In support of the people of Venezuela.”
The company Starlink, owned by Musk, confirmed that it will provide free satellite internet service throughout Venezuelan territory for one month, with the aim of ensuring connectivity for citizens amid the political and social crisis the country is experiencing.
“Starlink is providing free broadband service to the people of Venezuela until February 3, ensuring continuous connectivity,” the company stated in a press release posted on the same social media platform.
The gesture from Musk has been received with enthusiasm by Venezuelans. This measure could facilitate access to independent information at a crucial moment for the political future of Venezuela, following Maduro's capture and the beginning of a transition under international oversight.
