Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores will appear before a federal judge on Monday.
The news was confirmed this Sunday by a spokesperson for the U.S. District Court in the Southern District of New York to CBS News.
The court appearance for criminal charges before the federal court is scheduled for Monday at 12 p.m.
Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were captured in Venezuela on Saturday as part of an operation involving U.S. forces and subsequently transferred to the United States to face federal charges.
This transfer has generated international impact and global coverage.
Maduro is accused in a federal court in New York of leading a drug trafficking scheme and other drug-related offenses that allegedly operated for decades, according to court documents and the indictment from the U.S. Department of Justice.
The accusation includes involvement in a drug trafficking conspiracy that allegedly involved large quantities of cocaine and collaboration with criminal networks.
Flores was also included in the charges and transferred to the U.S. The accusations against her are linked both to the broader drug trafficking scheme and to alleged acts of corruption. Flores is a politician with a long-standing history in chavismo and has previously faced familial ties to drug trafficking cases (such as that of the "narcosobrinos").
