The Republican senator from Florida, Rick Scott, stated that the Cuban regime could come to an end in 2026 or 2027, as a direct consequence of the collapse of Chavismo in Venezuela and a wave of political changes that, according to him, will spread throughout the region.
In recent statements to Fox News, Scott stated that the capture of the Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro by U.S. forces marks the beginning of a process of hemispheric transformation.
"This is the beginning of changing Venezuela, then we will fix Cuba, Nicaragua will also be resolved, and next year we will have a new president in Colombia. Democracy is returning to this hemisphere," he expressed.
The senator recalled that he had already warned in 2024, during an appearance on the 60 Minutes program, that Maduro's days were "numbered" and that his exit from power—whether due to internal or external factors—would have a direct impact on the Cuban regime, which he described as dependent on Venezuelan support.
After the arrest and extradition of Maduro to New York last week, Scott reiterated his forecast in an interview with NewsNation, where he asserted that the end of "the regime of Miguel Díaz-Canel" is only a matter of time.
"Everything takes more time than one thinks. Maybe it will happen this year, maybe next, but it will happen. We will achieve democracy," he stated.
The senator's statements align with recent comments from President Donald Trump, who asserted on Sunday, aboard Air Force One, that “Cuba is about to fall,” fueling expectations of a profound political change on the island after more than six decades of communist rule.
