Nicolás Maduro Guerra, son of the recently captured Nicolás Maduro, called for unity within the government and claimed that the Executive is carrying out “the plan” that —as he stated— his father approved before being captured by the United States.

“Everything that is happening, everything we are doing today as a government was Nicolás Maduro's plan... We are following his instructions,” he said at a political event.

In his remarks, Maduro Guerra stated that his father “set the course” and was “prepared for anything”, and he cited three instruments that, he said, are part of that roadmap: the Homeland Plan, the Seven Transformations Plan, and the Negotiation Plan.

"If something happens to me, this is the way... Here is the Homeland Plan. Here is the Plan for the Seven Transformations. Here is the Negotiation Plan," he stated, attributing it to previous instructions from his father.

The chavista deputy added that "the five points" that Maduro "approved in December" are what they are "working on today," and that the country's future "prosperity" would be the result of that plan.

Maduro Guerra framed the call for unity as a signal of the continuity of power following Maduro's capture and explicitly supported Delcy Rodríguez, whom he referred to as “our older sister,” “at the head of the interim presidency,” along with a “collective team of high-level political leadership.”

The statement comes during a day of political tension, following the opening of the National Assembly, where Maduro Guerra expressed "unconditional support" for Rodríguez and rallied behind her while awaiting her parliamentary confirmation, after Maduro's capture last Saturday, January 3. In the end, he delivered a direct message: "The homeland is in good hands."

In that context, Maduro Guerra also defended his father against U.S. justice, stating that international law "exists to halt empires" and made a political comparison: "If they are Monroe, we are Simón Bolívar," according to the text.

International media have reported on the emotional tone of the speech and the public support for Delcy Rodríguez as interim president, portraying it as an attempt to reinforce the narrative of continuity of chavismo following Maduro's capture.

Out of the 285 members of the Assembly, 256 are aligned with chavismo, which ensures that the government maintains total control of the legislative body, at a time when Maduro faces charges of drug trafficking and terrorism in a federal court in New York.

Maduro's son also proposed Jorge Rodríguez Gómez for the presidency of the National Assembly, further consolidating chavismo's political control in the legislature.
