The Venezuelan deputy Nicolás Ernesto Maduro Guerra, son of former president Nicolás Maduro, stated this Saturday that his father "is doing well" and sent a message of encouragement from the U.S. prison where he remains detained along with his wife, Cilia Flores, following the military operation on January 3 in Caracas ordered by President Donald Trump.

During an event of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) in Caracas, Maduro Guerra conveyed words that he said his father transmitted through his lawyers: “He said not to be sad, that we are okay; we are fighters. He is strong, they could not defeat him by any means.”

“I am a fighter, a man they could not defeat by any means; they had to resort to disproportionate force, but they did not conquer me,” Maduro said from prison in New York, according to his son before the Chavista deputies. “We are going to preserve life, we are going to maintain power, we are going to preserve the revolution, and it is up to us to move forward on our path to keep Venezuelan democracy alive.”

The young deputy assured that chavismo is "not broken," but rather "solid and united," and called for continued loyalty to the Bolivarian project.

"The strength of chavismo lies in unity, and no matter what happens, we must maintain unity among ourselves and trust: trust in him [Nicolás Maduro], trust in Jorge [Rodríguez], and trust in Diosdado [Cabello]. I told myself: Nico, join them," he expressed, his voice trembling.

From Caracas, the acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, reaffirmed that she only occupies the position temporarily while “we achieve the freedom of President Nicolás Maduro.” During a visit to Petare, she stated: “There is no doubt here, the Venezuelan people are in charge. I have the responsibility to take care of things while we achieve President Maduro's freedom.”

The U.S. military operation, which resulted in over a hundred dead and injured, culminated in the arrest of Maduro and Flores, who were presented before a New York court on January 5, facing several federal charges.
