Ana Sofía and a young Cuban explain why the U.S. embargo is not the main cause of the crisis on the Island

Ana Sofía Benítez and Ernesto Medina criticized the regime, arguing that the crisis in Cuba is more due to the economic model and internal management than to the U.S. embargo, highlighting the main causes as the lack of democracy and corruption.

The Cuban influencer Ana Sofía Benítez Silvente, known for her critical videos and direct tone against the regime, sparked debate on social media once again after publishing a new analysis of the United States' embargo on Cuba on Instagram.

Accompanied by the young Cuban artist Ernesto Medina, known as Tico from el4tico, the creator tackled the subject with clear arguments, dismantling the official narrative that solely blames the embargo for the country's crisis.

“U.S. laws, such as the Helms-Burton, aim to pressure for a regime change, but the stagnation, poverty, and lack of development in Cuba are the result of the economic model itself and internal political management,” stated Ana Sofía.

Both argued that, although the embargo limits and punishes, the real problem lies in a system that "clings to authoritarian control and a lack of transparency," prioritizing its political hegemony over the well-being of its citizens.

Young people warned that the Cuban State “prefers to maintain power rather than open spaces for democracy and modernization”, a stance that, according to her, is upheld “by interests of power, corruption, and a lack of will to change.”

They also reported that the regime seeks to control "the economy, society, and information," in addition to punishing any dissent "at the cost of life and civil liberty."

The message followed the trend of other recent postings by Ana Sofía, in which she has denounced the double standards of Castroism, official censorship, and the manipulation of political discourse.

In previous videos, he has defended young people's right to express themselves without fear and has used humor as a tool to expose the hypocrisy of those in power.

The new video concluded with a phrase that encapsulates its message: “At this point, those who deny this reality do so not out of lack of information, but from fear of confronting an uncomfortable truth.”
