Cuban singer Lenier Mesa expressed harsh criticism against the regime in Havana during his participation in the reality show "El Rancho de Destino," where he stated that he has no ties or interest in the Cuban government and desires its definitive downfall.
"I have no interest in the government of Cuba; I hope it falls tomorrow. And now, with this whole Donald Trump situation, I hope it falls completely. But that's the land where we were born," said the interpreter in comments that quickly went viral on social media.
Lenier explained that he is not returning to the island because, in his words, “Cuba gives me nothing, neither as an artist nor as a business.” “I went at my time, I sang, but there came a point where Cuba no longer gives me anything until there is a change,” he stated.
The artist also revealed that, during a previous visit, the Cuban authorities prevented him from performing in public. “When I arrived, they told me: you are not welcome here, you are going with Tekashi, and tomorrow you will leave. I didn’t go to sing, nor was I allowed to talk or perform anywhere,” he recalled.
Lenier added that his artistic work abroad is what supports his personal finances. "I was on a tour, no one pays my rent or my house, I earn my thousands of dollars. I defend Cuba in my own way, and if Donald Trump ends that, I'm happy, I'm ready," he emphasized.
These statements reinforce Lenier Mesa's critical stance against the Cuban regime and his support for the changes promoted by the administration of President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who have reiterated their commitment to the freedom of Cuba.
